This Morning Routine Will Change Your Day
What to do
We are pretty clear on what not to do when we open our eyes but I find that unless I make some conscious key steps before I go to bed, I will fall victim to old habits before I’ve even gotten out of bed.
I’m going to be real and say that I don’t always wake up happy or refreshed and clear. I’m a vivid dreamer and often I wake up with fragments of me not fully present, still traveling back from alternate realms so it makes for a confusing or serious ungrounded arrival at consciousness. Needless to say, my first thought isn’t thank you or today is going to be awesome. Instead, I have to choose the direction of my thoughts and sometimes it means unraveling a dark tangle of fuzzy details that was inspired by dreams, the in-between, etc.
If there was just one thing I would recommend it would be this.
Don’t pick up your phone. I know it’s hard, you work, you have things to do, you are important. People are trying to reach you. But don’t. pick. up. your. phone. Start with 5 minutes. Work your way up to an hour, two if you can afford that luxury. Place your phone always on airplane mode or off and in another room. You don’t need the emf’s disrupting your body and with the phone in another room, well.. out of sight, out of mind. hopefully. Just 5 minutes. Start today.
Now, what do you do instead of look mindlessly at your phone scrolling social media, emails, texts, and anything else that could make you spin out, leaving you stressed, anxious and now with only 25 minutes to shower, get ready, feed your animals, kids, and drive to work?
Breathe. Before you get out of bed, take a minute and breathe. it’s clearing and a big step in setting the tone with how you care for yourself today regardless of what happens around you, you have already shown yourself that you are putting you first. Take 5 very big belly breaths, exhaling fully and allowing yourself to really notice how your body is shifting. awakening and relaxing into itself. observe it and maybe even adore yourself in these luxurious breaths that you are giving yourself. An alternative scenario is to walk outside barefoot and look at the sky letting the sun hit your eyes and breathe.
Drink Up. Your body is dehydrated when you wake up and when we get dehydrated our brain can start signaling all sorts of misinformation to our body and telling it we are hungry, sleepy, craving sweets, caffeine. So drink your water. Take your supplements. Drink your greens. Allow the body to acclimate to this new state before eating or caffenating.
Craft your day. This is my favorite part of my morning. It is a hybrid of journalling, intentioning/manifesting, visualizing and scheduling what I desire and what the day will look like. This is when I savor my latte and get into the gratitude.
Move your body. Instead of pushing yourself or putting a time limit on this, I shifted my narrative around this recently because my old rules felt like they were backfiring on me. Now, I ask my body what it needs. Sometimes it’s slow stretching other days it is pilates or fresh air and a hike or dancing around because I need the flow to move through me, for me
As you approach this new venture I want to remind you all that its about progress not perfection. Start where you can and add a little more as you go.
