A Simple Guide to Meditation
Your most important relationship
is with yourself. Meditation is an opportunity to bring your mind, body and spirit into an aligned conversation. It can be one of the most simplest rituals to bring into your day with the greatest benefits.
There are many types of meditation and if we aren’t connecting to any or all of them it can feel daunting, overwhelming, and stressful which; is the exact opposite of what meditation is intended to be. The most common things I hear people say is that they don’t have time, they don’t know how, and it didn’t work.
I’m here to make it really simple so that those barriers can be removed to get you closer to this self connection. I have tried almost every form of meditation but I always come back to what feels really intuitive for me and it is a blend of mindfulness and focused meditation. Whether you have 2 minutes or 20 minutes, this can be done anywhere, anytime.
Find a comfortable place to sit, put your hands on your heart or comfortably place them in your lap or on your knees and close your eyes, if possible.
Bring your attention to your body and noticing your breath and where you might be holding tension.
Take a deep full inhale expanding that breath into your back and into belly.
Fully exhale, letting go of what no longer serves you.
Deeply inhale, this time imagining the breath going to that parts of you that need it most.
Fully exhale, releasing any tension or energy that doesn’t belong.
Last inhale, allowing that breath to really expand within. Letting it recharge you. ( It is literally giving you life.)
Hold for the count of 4
Then, fully exhaling out of your mouth, allowing your body to relax into itself.
With your eyes still closed, allow yourself to observe any shifts without judgement. Thank yourself for taking these few moments to consciously connect to your body, mind, and soul.
When you are ready, open your eyes.
On the days when life feels really resistant, taking even smaller moments more often can be helpful so that you can keep that line of communication to yourself open and at the forefront of your day. The goal here isn’t to hit the timer. The goal here is to connect with yourself by being present to your body, mind and soul so that you can be in conversation with self to show up for you and to give you what you need.
